The undergraduate education primarily uses the Sun/Unix systems with workstations and central "servers", but also PC:s. Computer equipment for students is found in buildings 1, 2 and 4. For more detailed information about daily software installation, computer labs, computer equipment, software etc, see datordrift (only in Swedish).
To get a computer account at the Sun/Unix systems you need a registration on a course or a study programme. Usually you get a computer account when you begin your studies on a study programme. Your teacher can help you with an application if you don't have an account. The account automatically expires when you're no longer an active student. The computer account is connected to the computer net for students in Uppsala, UpUnet-S
, you apply for an account at UpUnet-S on the same application form. You will have the same username for the computer account at our department as you have for UpUnet-S.
You use the same username for the PC-system as for the Sun/Unix system, and you use password C in UpUnet-S.
To get into the buildings (outside office hours) and the computer labs (always), you must have an entry access card. To be granted one of those, you need a registration on a course or a study programme. Application is made on a special form. You find the form at Intendenturen at Ångström lab. This is also where you hand in the application and receive the access card.
There are a set of rules regarding the use of the department's computers and network. Students who do not follow the rules can be cut off from the computers. Consider that a lot of different people must be able to work in the computer labs.Read more.
