Contacts with faculty at Stanford University have been developed over several years. Professor Bertil Gustafsson, Uppsala University, has been a regular visitor for a long time and some senior researchers at Uppsala University have collaboration partners at Stanford University. Several Ph.D. graduates from Uppsala have been visiting Stanford as postdocs or assistant professors.
The first contacts for collaboration in education was made in January 2004 when professor Bertil Gustafsso was lecturing in Numerical Analysis at Stanford University. In April 2004, Eva Pärt-Enander and Stefan Pålsson visited Stanford University to discuss courses within the new institute ICME, technology resources and experiences of information and communication technologies (ICT) in education at Stanford with SCIL and other centers. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on this occasion.
Two pilot courses, planned and developed in fall 2004, were given jointly in winter quarter 2005 in:
Two joint courses were given in winter and spring 2006:
Plans are made continuously on new joint courses.
The project Computational Consulting was started in February 2006 and involves collaboration between graduate students as well as faculty members at both universities.
The following courses were given jointly:
A Stanford course in partial differential equations was given by Bertil Gustafsson during the winter quarter.
Professor Margot Gerritsen has been visiting Uppsala twice during 2006. Professor Gunilla Kreiss, Sverker Holmgren, Martin Berggren, and Eva Pärt-Enander from Uppsala were visiting ICME in December 2-9, 2006. The aims of the visit were:
Prof. James Lambers, Stanford, visited Uppsala in June 2007.
The following courses are given jointly:
Two Uppsala students are working with their Master's theses in a research group at Stanford University, fall 2006.
A Stanford course in partial differential equations will be given by Gunilla Kreiss during the winter quarter, January-March 2008.
Henrik Löf from Uppsala will give some lectures at Stanford in the joint course High performance computing, March 2008.
