Winter blues (ˈwɪntə blu:z) :
(informal) a feeling of depression or deep unhappiness associated with experiencing the cold and darkness of winter.

The winter blues phenomenon is defined but the complete cause and remedy is unknown. Many people in high latitudes such as Scandinavia, and the United Kingdom experience this phenomenon. As the fall months turn into winter, people can have intensified feelings of depression leading to diminishing appetites, loss of activity & energy, and lack of social interactions. At extreme cases winter blues becomes Seasonal Affective

SAD initiative is a series of projects founded in Uppsala University by Edith Ngai. The main goal is to contribute to the global research of SAD. SAD initiative welcomes collaboration with companies and other universities in order to better the world through understanding and developing a greater insight into this phenomenon.
