Abstract

With the increasing use of computerized information systems in working life, and the fact that the user and user interface developer in most situations shows to be different persons, the need for "user friendly" information systems - that is, computer systems that are based on the users knowledge and abilities - is an important issue that needs to be investigated further. The technical development is so rapid that computers with graphical user interfaces, earlier only used in advanced technical systems, now can be used also for administrative work. The method for the design of the user interface has to be adapted to the specific working situation. Within a research project at CMD a preliminary method for the design of new human-computer interaction elements has been developed. A demonstration system, to show the 'look and feel' of some of these interaction elements, has been developed within this work. The implementation was made on a Macintosh IIfx, with the help of the programme MacroMind Director.
