Inter-Networking MPLS and SelNet

Andreas Westling

April 2004

Abstract:
The growing amount of traffic on the Internet has lead to regular IP switching technique becoming more and more inadequate. Since more IP switching routers have to be purchased in order to co-operate with the traffic the costs are rising for the ISPs. This has lead to extensive research on how to lower the cost for the end-toend computation. One of the ways in doing so is to use a tag-switching approach. This thesis will give a brief introduction to two tag-switching architectures, MPLS and SelNet, and show how these can co-operate despite their differences.
