Numerical simulations of glacial advance and recession

The aim of this project is to efficiently simulate the viscoelastic response of the lithosphere to glacial advance and recession, as a means to improve the safety predictions for nuclear waste repositories.

The figure shows the vertical part of the solution to the problem in the case when the lithosphere is modeled as a purely elastic medium loaded by a rectangular sheet of ice.
