Postural control

During standing or sitting the human body is constantly swaying due to activities in the control system of the inherently unstable system. By analysis of this sway it is our intention to provide new means of analysing different types of dysfunction in this system.

An earlier project aimed at detecting a threshold in the sensory feedback to the central nervous system. Feedback about our position and orientation in space is needed to control the posture. The hypothesis of a sensory threshold has been a hot topic in the literature, and our goal was to test this hypothesis using system identification methods. The experiments involved disturbing the balance of the test subjects using a moveable platform.
