What to do if you experience or witness harassment or sexual harassment

Uppsala University has issued detailed guidelines for dealing with cases of harassment (https://regler.uu.se/document/?contentId=131823).

Harassment is conduct that violates a person’s dignity and that is associated with one of the grounds of discrimination: sex, transgender identity or expression, ethnicity, religion or other belief, disability, sexual orientation or age.
Sexual harassment means conduct of a sexual nature that violates someone’s dignity.

How you can report

1) If you feel that you have experienced or witnessed harassment or sexual harassment, but you are not sure, you can fill in a form to report this: https://doit.medfarm.uu.se/bin/kurt3/kurt/26328
You may choose to remain anonymous or add your contact details. Someone from Human Resources at the Department of Information Technology will review the case and discuss if a follow up is needed with the Head of Department.
Note that an anonymous report means that the employer or education provider has become aware of the incident, which means there is an obligation to investigate and, where appropriate, take measures without knowing the identity of the person making the report.

An anonymous report often means that the possibility of making a full investigation is limited. In these cases, the investigation and the measures depend on the conditions for investigation. Normally, an anonymous report cannot lead to an investigation that results in sanctions against the person reported.
Note that where the identity of the person making the report is known to the University, the report cannot be regarded as anonymous. Various measures can be taken in these cases to prevent future incidents.

2) In case you think that you have experienced something that definitely should not have happened, you have three options:

  • You may fill in the same form as above, in an anonymous or non-anonymous manner: https://doit.medfarm.uu.se/bin/kurt3/kurt/26328
  • You may also contact Anna-Lena Forsberg (anna-lena.forsberg@it.uu.se), Human Resources generalist and contact person for sexual harassment and gender-related violations at the IT Department, or study counsellor Liselott Dominicus van den Bussche (Liselott.Dominicus@it.uu.se). In this case, your conversations will be kept confidential and anonymous, as long as you do not report a case to them via written email.
  • As a third option, you may also contact directly the Head of the Department (prefekt@it.uu.se). In such a case, the Head of Department is obligated to do an investigation. It’s considered as a notification and the Head of the department has to act on it. If the person is known (for example uses her or his email account), the case cannot be regarded as anonymous.
