Abstract: Ambient Networks

Description
Objective
The aim of the course is to introduce students to a special class of time-sensitive systems commonly referred to as real-time systems. These systems are often embedded in a larger system, and are imposed time-constraints (or deadlines) which have to be met.
Content
The course covers topics such as time handling, fault tolerance, language support, real-time operating systems, allocation and scheduling for real-time systems (especially rate monotone scheduling).
The course consists of a series of lectures, assignments and a laboratory exercise in UPPAAL. It will be examined by an exam (2pts) and the assignments and laboratory (1pt)
to give a total of three points for this part of Computer Systems II (Datorsystem II, del 2).
Literature
These notes are essential reading: Tindell and Hanson.
Book: Distributed Systems Concepts and Design by Coulouris, Dollimore, Kindberg.
