New Input/Output Pairing Strategies based on Minimum Variance Control and Linear Quadratic Gaussian Control

Abstract:
In this paper a new input/output pairing strategy based on minimum variance control is proposed. A similar version based on linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control is also suggested. The strategies are used to compare the expected performance of decentralized control structures in some illustrative examples. The pairing suggestions are compared with the recommendations previously obtained using other interaction measures such as the Relative Gain Array (RGA). The new strategies give suitable pairing recommendations and are easy to interpret.
