To bring together researchers between divisions and between the department of Information Technology and external parts to create a multidisciplinary joint initiative focusing on IT for smart society.

About Smart City

Modern society faces many critical challenges in different areas, including pollution, energy consumption, waste, transportation, and healthcare. Governments worldwide and citizens are looking for new technology and solutions to better manage their cities for sustainable development and better quality of life.

Our Vision: To bring together researchers from different divisions to create a multidisciplinary joint initiative focusing on IT for smart society to address critical challenges in smart cities, sustainable environment, and healthcare, and explore collaborations with governments and industries.

The arena is run jointly by the Department of Information Technology. The IT department in Uppsala University has strong profile and research expertise in many different areas that are necessary for solving many problems for smart society, including cloud computing, communication and networking, data analytics, human-computer interaction, machine learning, optimisation, and sensing technology.

The Smart City Arena is part of the Department of Information Technology and is situated at the Information Technology Center (ITC) in Uppsala, Sweden.
