Roll call and enrollment formalities

The 2021 autumn term will start with some activities during the orientation week on 23-27 August. There will be two information meetings (on Monday and Tuesday) and then individual meetings with each student (Wednesday to Friday). You can find a schedule for the orientation week further down on this page. The courses start the week after the orientation week, from August 30.

You are all responsible for making sure that you abide by the regulations regarding covid upon entering Sweden from your previous country of residence. Recognizing that some of you may still be in self-quarantine during the orientation week, all the above mentioned activities during this week will be held online over Zoom.

Note that it is mandatory to attend (virtually) the roll call on August 23 and an individual meeting later in the week. If for some reason you are unable to attend, email Pontus Ekberg as soon as possible (before the missed meeting) to discuss how to proceed.

During the individual meeting you will talk to the programme coordinator or the programme student advisor to discuss your study plan, select courses for the autumn term and finalise enrollment. All students need to have a valid ID (e.g., a passport) and a device with a camera to the meeting. Students with a conditional offer of enrollment, in addition, must have provided the necessary documents to the University admissions ahead of time. The schedule for these meetings will be arranged after the roll call on August 23. You must have completed your course selection in an individual meeting before the orientation week is over on August 27.

Courses: On Tuesday, 24 August, you will be given practical information around courses and some brief presentations of the "recommended" courses for the autumn. Note that you are not required to take all the courses that are marked as recommended for the programme (and indeed shouldn't if you have already taken a very similar course in your bachelor's). The programme syllabus lists several optional courses that can be taken instead, and it is sometimes possible to take courses that are not in the programme syllabus at all.

Some courses may have elements of online teaching remaining, especially during the first weeks, but this does not mean that they are designed to be followed fully online. Presence in Uppsala is expected from the start to follow the programme.

It is a good idea to already now take a closer look at the syllabus of the master programme here and in particular the courses offered as part of the program here.

The wider list of all courses offered by the Department of Information Technology during the autumn can be found here (including non-programme courses that may be possible to take). Brief presentations of some of the courses on that list can be found here.

Note that the outline contains a couple of non-updated courses: The optional course "Script Programming (1TD328)" has been cancelled and the optional "Introduction to Computer Control Systems (1RT485)" has been moved from period 1 to period 3.

Student account: To participate in the programme it is very important that you have a student account. You can read more about getting a student account here.

Other welcoming activities

Activities are organized to welcome new students by various organizations. If the situation allows, many of those activities will be arranged in person. You are welcome and encouraged to attend as long as you are symptom-free and have followed any regulations regarding self-quarantine etc. that apply to your situation.

  • The Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science students (UTN) arranges social activities and informative meetings specifically for you, the new students in one of our master's programmes. Read about those activities here.
  • For hundreds of years, the student nations have been a central part of student life for many. Uppsala's 13 student nations regularly organize events to welcome new students and then throughout the year. Read more about student nations here.
